Camp Verde Teen Center Project Supported by: Youth Commission, Town of Camp Verde, The Boys and Girls Club of Northern Arizona, Community Youth Coalition, Youth Count, MATForce, The Yavapai-Apache Nation with funding from Yavapai County Community Foundation and Untied Way Background: Back in 2002 a group of active community members and organizations held community meetings to design a youth development plan for the Verde Valley. Since those meetings the Camp Verde Parks and Recreation had been trying to establish a youth commission, which would be filled with teen representatives, to be the voice and carry out the youth development idea. A youth commission was finally established in August of 2007 and the young people held their first meeting on September 27, 2007. But before youth commission got its start a member of Youth Count, Harvey Grady approached the Town Council in hopes of funding the youth development plan. In 2006 the Town Council of Camp Verde awarded $6,000 to be invested in the future of youth development. As of November of 2007 a group was formed, now known as the Community Youth Coalition, which would help create momentum for the Teen Center Project. To date a lot has taken shape for the project. The youth commission received approval from the Camp Verde Town Council to designate the metal building next to the new Marshals office as a future site for a teen center. Once the teen center idea gained momentum, more supporters banded together to do what it takes to implement a youth development plan; those supporters are listed above. Here’s where we need you! The real task now is to inform the community about the importance of youth development, promote the center and youth commission plans, and gain the support of even more community members and organizations.
