Internet Access Policies and Guidelines

· Eligibility for use

Anyone who wishes to have Internet access at the Public Access computers must read and sign the Registration and User Agreement or the Permission Agreement cards. These cards will be available at the circulation desk and will be kept on file there. These computers are unfiltered, and no minors can use them without a permission agreement signed - in person - by a parent or guardian.

· Availability and time limits

The Public Access Computers will be available during normal library hours. The computers will be shutdown one half hour before closing time each day. There will be no reservations taken - - usage is on a first come first served basis. Time on the computers limited to one hour per session. If no one is waiting to use the computer, the session may be extended to a maximum of three hours. The maximum time allowed per week is eight hours. A sign-up sheet will be provided at the circulation desk. Anyone who uses the computers must sign in before beginning the session. You need not be a registered patron of the library to use the computers, but if you are not, you will be asked to provide a piece of identification or a driver's license to be held at the circulation desk until your session is over.

· Computer Usage Guidelines

Persons may not use personal software, or alter or attach equipment to the library's hardware. The computers' hard disk drives are for the storage of library software and information. Do not save your files there. Disks may NOT be brought into the library for use on these computers. Disks for personal use will be available for sale at the circulation desk at the cost of $1.00 each. These disks may be stored at the circulation desk for future use. If they leave the library, they will not be allowed to be used. Any unknown files will be purged periodically by the library staff. These computers are to be used primarily for research and study purposes. Game playing is allowed only on the children's computer. Business or commercial use of these computers is prohibited. Assistance with the use of the computers will be given whenever possible, but no in-depth training can be given.

· Printing

A printer is available for public use. The cost for printing is $ .10 per page, with a maximum of 25 pages per session. You must pay for ALL pages printed. (Use the print preview feature and / or selection option to avoid printing what you do not want)

· User Responsibilities

All persons will be personally responsible for any materials ordered via the Internet. The library will not be responsible for these costs, nor will we accept delivery of materials ordered. The library is not responsible for the content of resources on the Internet. User privacy or confidentiality is not guaranteed on these computers. A copy of the Arizona House Bill 2409 relating to computer access by minors is available at the circulation desk.

These computers are not to be used to create, transmit, print, or otherwise distribute pornographic, obscene, or sexually explicit materials; or any racist, sexist, or homophobic materials. The use of the Internet access computers for any activity that is libelous or slanderous, or the use of Internet resources to offend, harass, intimidate or threaten any person is forbidden. These behaviors will be considered to be a violation of the library's conduct code. The library may end any person's session at the computer for this reason. Anyone violating the code will be denied further access to the computers.
